A view of Ten Mile Range in Summit County, Colorado opposite of Lake Dillon,(foreground) was impressive today. A blanket of snow fell overnight and covered the ground. Steady winds made the temperature of 12°F and/or minus -11°C, feel like zero below something. Regardless of the temperature it’s alway gorgeous to look at.
I always enjoy traveling through the high country. I can see a mountain range or valley a thousand different times and can find something different, beautiful and majestic about them every time. The Tenmile Range is named for the ten numbered peaks of the range, which measure approximately ten miles (the entire range is actually greater in distance). The lower slopes of Peaks 7-10 comprise the popular ski resort of Breckenridge Colorado.
Ten mile Range begins at the Ten mile Canyon, where it immediately rises from Interstate 70 at 9000 feet to the top of Ten-mile Peak. The range features 5 thirteen’s and the every so popular Quandary Peak. Copper Mountain, Keystone, A-Basin, Arapahoe and Breckenridge ski resorts are within a 20 minute drive and approxiamtely one and ½ hours from Denver. The area boasts camping, hiking, mountaineering, alpine rock climbing, alpine mixed climbing, big-mountain skiing, resort skiing, fishing, and camping.
Nearby towns of Frisco, Silverthorne and Dillon offer a great mix of cuisine to choose from and include shopping and fun souvienr shops you can get lost for an afternoon in as well. If you get a chance it’s worth checking out.
