Breckenridge Colorado – I’ve been to a lot of places but when I heard the town of Breckenridge received over 54″ of snow this past week, I had to go! So Thanksgiving day I was out the door at 5 a.m. and headed for Summit County. Some of the most dramatic sunsets can be captured believe it or not, within 15 even 20 minutes after the sun drops behind the horizon. My professional photography career started in the late 1980’s when I successfully marketed a sunset scene I shot in Acadia National Park of Bass Harbor Lighthouse, to Sierra Club and later that year a scene of the Old North Bridge a historical site in the Battle of Concord during the American War of Independence in Concord, Massachusetts for Nat Geo.
The most exciting moment for me was while traveling through Regean International airport, I stopped into one of those over priced last minute convenience stores in the terminal to get some snacks and saw one of the two women standing over the post card rack let out a shrill of excitement and and begin showing the other what she found. Look she said, ” I found the perfect post card” ! Naturally, I had to see what she choose and to my surprise it was a postcard with the image of Bass Harbor I photographed years earlier in Maine. In fact it was the first image I ever professionally marketed. After seeing their reaction it was then when it finally hit me, I can bring joy into someone’s life I’ve never met doing something I love to do.
I have traveled the US, Canada, France, Ireland, Spain, Belgium, Mexico and Italy. I still love what I do. Today when I’m not shooting luxury homes I still spend time traveling to different countries, last year alone, I was in Canada five times. A place I have to get back too. Canada is an amazing place and I find I connect best abroad with Francophones and european cultures. It’s in my DNA, I suppose. Every country is gorgeous! They all are incredible, really. I also love to eat and finding the best places to enjoy the local fare that’s made by the very people who put their heart and soul into every meal they serve. I consider it a special treat for me to visit those places. It also gives me the opportunity to learn more about a particular area and I find if given an opportunity most people will go out of their way to tell you about their favorite fishing hole or the best spot to memorialize special locations they have a connection to the place they call home.
