Setting the Mood
Setting the proper mood is Important!
The Measure of Light
Color temperature is a measure of the light bulb’s color when illuminated, and is measured in degrees Kelvin. The higher the number, the whiter and then bluer, the color.
When it comes to lighting the interior and exterior of your home you have the choice of light. From cozy, warm lighting to midday cool brightness, you’ll see the difference in easy-to create lighting settings. If you desire a warm light that helps create an Inviting, comfortable and relaxing feeling choose a light that measures between 2700k-3000k. A neutral look 3500k, a cool, bright, clean and lively mood select a light rated at 4100k. If your looking for something that resembles daylight then select a bulb which is rated between 5500k-6500k. Take a look at the samples below which illustrate who light can effect the mood.
About the lighting facts label
As you purchase your next light bulb, look for the lighting facts label and read it carefully. The United States Department of Energy and the Next Generation Lighting Industry Alliance wants to keep you informed about your bulb and how they will perform in your home. Similar to the nutrition facts label found on manufactured foods, the lighting facts label appears on over 90 light bulb manufacturers. Lighting manufacturers that display this label on their products agree to meet government regulated criteria in the following areas- lumens, efficacy, watts, correlated color temperature (CCT), and color rendering index (CRI).
Light bulbs are measured by industry standards and must meet all applicable legislation before the product can be placed in stores. If you choose to go green with energy-efficient light bulbs. Enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping the environment. Besides, you can reduce your annual energy costs by using less energy to light your space. Make the switch from incandescent bulbs to LEDs, CFLs and halogen light bulbs today. Its easy to go green!
One of the biggest challenges come when asked to photograph architecture and luxury homes and there are multiple sources of light illuminating at different color temperatures and then having to balance it in a way that looks natural and coveys the proper balance. I suggest if you select a particular type of light, stick with it throughout the entire room. You can see in the image above of the bedroom, how awkward it feels to look at.
