Broken Fences appear outside the city of Leadville, Colorado. This scene appeared at the end of a long day while traveling along US 24. Leadville once at the center of the Silver Mining business in the 19th century is the highest incorporated city and the second highest incorporated city in the United States. Leadville sits proudly at 10, 152′ above sea level.
The scenery can leave you breathless. Mt Elbert is the tallest mountain in Colorado, coming in at 14, 440 feet. is also the second -highest peak in the contiguous United States. Reachable from the home base of Leadville. Mt. Elbert is apart of the Swatch Range peak which is popular among climbers and hikers. Mt. Massive also nearby. All of these majestic wonders can be viewed along the highway. I would recommend the drive to anyone looking to experience Colorado.
Old abandon homesteads once used by Colorado’s early pioneers can be found among this expansive wilderness reminding us that life is cyclical, precious and brings us back to the best of times, the worst of times and a life once lived. Today Lake County is partnered with 171 communities nationwide receiving 264 grants totaling $64 million in brownfield funding to clean and clean and redevelop properties boosting local economies. This will give communities like Leadville a chance to return and bring economic stability to under-served and economically disadvantaged areas.
